CrowdVine is *really* annoying me

Posted Mon Jan 07 21:17:23 -0800 2008

I commented on Joseph Smarr's "blog" post and then an hour later it took 10 minutes of clicking to figure out what I had commented on. I think I like the idea of CrowdVine but the implementation is frustrating me. Most pages look very similar, and I feel like there's not enough context for me to figure out where to go next.

Would love to chat with Tony sometime about it.

Cheers.

Steve, sorry to hear that. If you do want to chat about it, my AIM is tonystubblebine. And I'll be at the the Camp Friday/Saturday. Or we could hash it out right here in case other people are experiencing the same thing.

Hi Tony,

Man, I was in a bad mood yesterday! ;-)

I do like the site overall. I was put off first by the lack of hCard import, but that's something we're pushing hard on the DiSo mailing list so it's been forefront on my mind. Then trying to remember where I had seen the post that I commented on was killing me! Seemed like every page looked the same, and so I felt like there were no context clues to help me recognize *when* I was getting close.

So that's what I was dealing with. Thoughts? I'll look for you at the camp as well.

Cheers,

The more we get involved in the open social (lowercase) movement the more we're impressed with how extensive the requirements are. I think the biggest beneficiaries (other than users) are going to be small independents like us. No hCard import yet, but when we do we'll make sure to open source it.

As for blog post: I'm positive you would have clicked on a page with the post (Home, My Network, JP's profile, several of the tag pages). The blog posts tend to be at the bottom, often well below the fold. The logic is that the other attendees are the most important content, so people and ways to find people (tags) get higher priority on the page.
